Weyerhaeuser Company will be conducting the conifer release phase of its 2016 Aerial Forestry Herbicide Project in Maine beginning on, or about, September 1, 2016 and continuing until about September 20, 2016, circumstances permitting. The purpose of the project is to release high-value seedlings and saplings from competing vegetation. The herbicides Arsenal AC, Oust XP and Rodeo will be used. These herbicides act specifically on plants and have been approved for use by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Maine Board of Pesticides Control. The 2016 conifer release program will involve application of herbicides to 74 carefully selected sites on about 1,600 acres of company land in Piscataquis and Somerset counties. Applications will take place in the following unorganized townships and plantations: Bowerbank, Bradstreet, Carrying Place, Concord, Days Academy, Elliotsville, Hartland, Indian Stream South, Johnson Mountain, Mayfield, Moose River, Moscow, Pierce Pond, Rockwood West, Sandwich, Squaretown and West Forks. Weyerhaeuser Company has established human health and environmental safety procedures to ensure the proper use of herbicides and to minimize public exposure. All applications will be completed in accordance with an EPA registered product label and in compliance with all regulations of the Maine Board of Pesticides Control. Weyerhaeuser Company uses herbicides only when necessary and appropriate and in accordance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) Standard.
