PUBLIC NOTICE OF INTENT TO FILE

Please take notice that the State of Maine, acting through the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of General Services, Station #77, Augusta, Maine 04333-0077 (tel. 207-624-7436), as owner, and NEWSME Landfill Operations, LLC ("NEWSME"), 358 Emerson Mill Road, Hampden, Maine 04444 (tel. 207 862-4200), as operator, are intending to file a license amendment application with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on or about November 27, 2017, pursuant to the provisions of 38 M.R.S. §§ 1301 et seq., Chapter 400 of Maine's Solid Waste Management Regulations, and the DEP's Chapter 2 Rules Concerning the Processing of Applications. The application is for an Amendment of License Amendment #S-020700-WD-BC-A of the Juniper Ridge Landfill to remove the date of March 31, 2018 from Condition 10 of that License. The Juniper Ridge Landfill is owned by the State of Maine and operated by NEWSME. The facility mailing address is 2828 Bennoch Road, Old Town, Maine 04468. According to Department regulations, interested parties must be publicly notified, written comments invited, and if justified, an opportunity for public hearing given. A request for a public hearing or for the Board of Environmental Protection to assume jurisdiction over this application, must be received by the Department, in writing, no later than 20 days after the application is accepted by the Department as complete for processing. The application and supporting documentation are available for review at the Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management (BRWM) at the DEP's Augusta office, during normal working hours. A copy of the application and supporting documentation will also be sent to, and may be seen at, the municipal offices in Old Town and Alton, Maine and at the Penobscot Indian Nation, Penobscot Indian Island Reservation, Maine.
