[font=font36821]Nominee:[/font] Honorable Thomas E. Delahanty II of Falmouth as an Active Retired Justice of the Superior Court
The Superior Court (4 MRSA § 105 & § 114) consists of 17 Justices (including a Chief Justice), and Active Retired Justices as may be appointed. The Superior Court has original jurisdiction over all matters, which are not within the exclusive jurisdiction of the District Court. The Superior Court is Maine's trial court of general jurisdiction, and is the only court in which civil and criminal jury trials are held. A Superior Court Justice has jurisdiction to determine any civil action, except small claims, and to hear actions of divorce or annulment and any matter incidental thereto. In addition, a Superior Court Justice has limited appellate jurisdiction. The term of appointment for Superior Court Justices is 7 years. The annual salary is set by statute.
